More than 900 participants gathered at The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) today (16 May) to participate in one of the largest scale mindfulness activities in Hong Kong this year. The day’s practice was led by The Venerable Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) and his Sangha from Plum Village, France.
The theme of the day’s event is “Stresses and Changes: Coping and Transforming”. It began with a walking meditation at the picturesque HKIEd Tai Po Campus, and followed by a Dharma talk on mindfulness. Thay concluded at today’s Dharma Talk, “No thinking is the secret of mindfulness." Participants also practised mindfulness breathing exercise at a total relaxation session together.
Participants included doctors, clinical psychologists, counsellors from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and nearby Asian countries. About one-third of the participants are university professors, school principals, teachers and students from the education sector. The day provided opportunities for participants to put their work aside, to learn and practice “Mindfulness”.
The Hong Kong programme is co-organized by the Centre of Buddhist Studies, The University of Hong Kong (CBS, HKU), the Hong Kong Institute of Education’s Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education (HKIEd, CRSE) and Tsz Ming Buddhist Centre.
