HKIEd to create a fair trade campus

HKIEd is not only a place for quality education, it has also become a place that can make a difference to the world’s poor. We have pledged to promote the use of fair trade products in offices and become a founding member of Fair Trade Workplace Society (FTWS).
HKIEd is the first tertiary institution in Hong Kong to join the Society. It is one of our latest efforts in corporate social responsibility: to promote respect for people, communities and the natural environment.
Fair trade is a partnership which seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by ensuring producers and workers, especially in the developing world, will receive a fair price for their products and work in decent conditions.
At HKIEd, we will serve our guests with fair trade certified products. Our hospitality will involve drinks and refreshments which will not only taste great, but also be with a sense of social consciousness, especially to guests concerned about supporting small, marginalised producers and workers.
Founding Members of the Society include Asia Financial, Asia Insurance, Hysan Development, NWS Holdings, Oxfam Hong Kong, The Hong Kong & China Gas, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, The HK Council of Social Service and TBWA\Hong Kong. The founding members attended the signing ceremony of the declaration at the World Fair Trade Day on 10 May 2008.
